Out with the old, in with the new ... or not

It's already the 31st of another December.

It's hard to believe.

All the boys are another year older.

So am I.

This is the time of year when we think about resolutions.

Things we want to do differently next year.

And there are a hundred small things that I could write on a list.

But I'm not doing it this year.

It's not because I think I don't need to change.

It's just that some things have happened this year.

Things that have put all the "small stuff" back in perspective.

And the truth of the matter is,

If next year comes and goes and all the "small stuff" is exactly the same as it is today,

I'll be okay with that.

Because what I have in this life,

All the blessings that are part of my every day,

It's almost too much to bear.

This here, right now ... it's good stuff.

Best wishes for a happy new year, Internet.

Such a sweet post, Katherine...also a good reminder for us to appreciate the small things and not let the BIG things consume us. The small things are really what are important, anyway! Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family!

I so appreciate everyone's kind words about the pictures; Leslie did a great job of capturing us much as we are.

And the small things really have to stay ... small ... if we're going to learn how to enjoy every day to the fullest. I'm definitely prone to letting small annoyances color my whole day or week, so this is something I'm going to try to work on this year!
