Today's Tuesday but let's talk about Sunday

I do not know what to say about the fact that I am three times as tired as I was last week, when we supposedly gained an hour of sleep over the weekend. I say "supposedly," because I'm not convinced that we did. I at least half suspect that someone in fact STOLE about 20 hours of sleep from me over the weekend, instead.

But I suppose you're not here to listen to me whine about how tired I am (although you certainly hear enough of that from me on any other day of the week and you inexplicably keep coming back) … so why don't I tell you about our Sunday? Because why move forward if we can go back?

We began our morning by heading over to the 5th Annual Moss Rock Festival in the Preserve, the beautiful neighborhood around the corner from ours. We took a free carriage ride, pulled by this beauty:

(And yes, I am against this in principle. I wouldn't pay for a ride in Central Park. But I was under Kid Pressure.)

We enjoyed strolling among the talented artists' tents, including some manned by friends:

There were colorful setups everywhere you looked ...

And we SO loved tossing the football on the Village Green, playing together and relaxing on the grass while listening to the live music.

From there, it was time to head across the street for Nathaniel's last baseball game of the season (sniff, sniff). I've talked so much about baseball here that I won't bore you with a play-by-play of how Jake asked to go to the playground every 90 seconds for three hours, Nathaniel hit five singles and scored three runs during the same amount of time, and my core body temperature fell from a comfy 98.6 to a Very Chilly 52 degrees while sitting on those bleachers ... I'll just tell you that it was a really fun game, enjoyed with friends and full of cheering proudly for our eldest.

After the game was over, we piled in the van and headed to Wal-Mart to get provisions to make nachos for supper. (Have I mentioned we're under a Dining Out Moratorium until the new year? Yes. That's at least $50 a week we can save for the next two months, which should enable us not to go into more debt to pay for Christmas. So we're eating in all the time. And let's not speak of this again. It's not my favorite subject. Thank you.)

QUICK! Name 10 things that are more fun than taking three hungry kids under 8 years old to Wal-Mart at supper time! Internet, the answers to that challenge are PLENTIFUL IF NOT ENDLESS. We tried to get in and out in less than half an hour, because really the only thing worse than being in that store right then is having your toenails yanked out one by one.

Once back at home, we made and enjoyed the heck out of those nachos, bathed all the kids, complained about how exhausted we were and then finally put everyone to bed. I threw together yesterday's blog post and then tossed together a couple more for a new little side Community Blogging thing I'm doing for our local Fox TV affiliate, Fox6.com. (You can read my first two posts here and here if you don't mind lightly recycled content.) Basically they're interested in creating more community content for the suburbs around Birmingham, and they don't mind if I use the same pictures I use here and just write a few paragraphs for them in a more, um, PROFESSIONAL VOICE, so to speak.

I guess they're not really into the completely irreverent and snarky tone you all have grown to love. But luckily I still have you all on which to dump my snarky side. (You're so welcome.)

So back to why the heck I felt like I started this week completely behind the emotional and physical Eight Ball, when really the weekend was very full, but full of good things ... I still don't have an answer for you on that. But I'm wondering if it's nothing a bag or two of fun-size Butterfingers can't fix.

You have such handsome boys. I too feel cheated by this "fall backwards" time thing. The days feel endless now and I can't tell the kids it's too early to get up when they come to my room at 6:30 and the sun is up. Yuck, I'm so not a morning person.

Pati, Thank you! Our boys seem to be waking up on the same schedule as always, so right now it's not so bad. Like I said, I don't really have an excuse for feeling this way ... I just do!

No wonder you're so tired! I like that moratorium on eating out! That used to be a luxury for us, and now we're getting too used to it! Time for our own moratorium.

Rambling, yeah, we got too used to it, too. And it's NOT CHEAP! Especially not for three kids, all boys. They can eat a ton of food. ;)
