Just when I thought I had nothing left to tell you

Nathaniel is notorious around here for taking such long showers that there's no hot water left for anyone else. The other night when he'd already been in the shower for 15 minutes, I walked in to put some clean towels away.

Me: "Hey, buddy, are you almost done?"

Nathaniel: [cheerfully]  "Yep! I'm all the way down to my feet."

I took a few minutes to brush my teeth, wash my face and take my contacts out, then checked back in with him:

Me: "Nathaniel. Are you about ready to get out? I brought your robe in for you."

Nathaniel: "Yep! I'm almost done with my feet."

Me: [blink]

So I think I sort of solved the mystery of what keeps him in the shower for so long ... if he gives every body part the attention he gives his feet, he's the most dedicated bather in the city.

But this brings me to a very important question, one to which I've never really given any thought: In which order do you bathe your parts? I do not wash my feet last, which is why I'm curious. Here's my process ... which involves two washcloths, a loofa, bar soap, body wash and shampoo:

1. Lower lady parts with washcloth #1 and bar soap
2. Hiney with washcloth #1 and bar soap
3. Hair with shampoo (don't rinse)
[then I shave my legs]
4. Upper body with loofa and body wash
5. Lower body (including feet) with loofa and body wash
6. Upper back with loofa and body wash
7. Lower back with loofa and body wash
8. Face with washcloth #2 and bar soap
9. Rinse shampoo out of hair

So like, my feet are clean about halfway through my shower. And it never occurred to me to wonder in what order other people wash their parts, but since the majority of the world seems to eat their hamburgers upside-down, I thought I'd ask. So you don't have to get that specific with me if you're the shy type, but I can't WAIT to hear what you guys have to say in the Comments about this.

That is the cutest story. The things that come out of the mouths of little boys!:) I think I will have to start a scrapbook to document my son's once he starts talking!

I cracked up at the phrase, "lady parts" at 7ish in the morning!

I wash hair, condition, then use Dove soap with a washcloth, starting at the face, the arms, top section, then middle section, then lower section, then shave, wash conditioner out, and I'm done!

This was one of the oddest comments I've ever left!!!

Hi there! Long time stalker, first time commenter. First I want to say your kids are freakin adorable, and as I have a Nicholas, too, I have to say I love the names =)

When I wash, I use far less of a complicated routine. I wash my hair first (and rinse it) Then use a washcloth with bar soap and just wash everywhere (top down) doing the 'lady parts and hiney' last. I far from shave my legs everyday (I'm single, one perk of that!) but when I do, that's done after everything else.

Have a great day!

Kids are too funny sometimes...

Shower routine: shampoo and rinse hair, condition hair (no rinse), wash face with face cleanser and face cloth, wash lower nether regions with wash cloth, shave leg #1, rinse hair, shave leg #2, shave pits, pumice feet. Do other parts of my body get special attention unless they need it.

This is a silly but what the heck :-)

First- I stand in the water for a good 5 minutes and just warm up and relax. LOL (I could prob give your son some competition in lengths of showers... heheheh)
1. Wash face- bar soap. Rinse.
2. Wash hair- leave shampoo in to soak.
3. Wash from neck/shoulders to feet with loufa. Girl parts last...
4. Rinse hair and body all at the same time.
5. Conditioner. Rinse out quickly (my hair is naturally oily anyway).
6. SHAVE (at least every other day. Can't stand it).
7. Rinse all again.

Cracking up that I just read a post on showering... And found it interesting. That takes talent!

Feet are last for me. I wash my hair, rinse, wash my body/shave, condition my hair, then do my feet.

That's hilarious! Reading this post, and the comments make me want to go take a shower now!

This is hilarious and way TMI!! I won't go into such details, but I do go from head to toes. My favorite bath accessory is my back brush by The Fuller Brush Co. I have one in 2 of the 3 bathrooms. One day, I found a brush in the floor of the bathroom that my daughter was using, while home visiting. I asked why my bath brush was in the floor. She said, Oh, I wondered why the toilet brush was hanging in the shower. I cleaned the toilet with it."

UGH! Had to order new one.

RLR said...

Top down. Shampoo, rinse. Condition, rinse. Face, rinse - and continue on down to feet. If I'm shaving, I add that to the routine as I wash (from the top down...).
I have to admit, my jaw dropped at your inventory of shower supplies - and I've never heard of letting your shampoo 'soak.' Still, an interesting post. My son - and also my sister - could shower for days if they didn't run out of hot water!

Erin said...

Top down, so I have a better chance of not having to jump out of the shower with shampoo in my eyes because someone has just stuck his face in the toilet or decided to scale the curtains.

Amanda said...

Oh man he sounds like my brother taking 30 minute showers! And he is 6! I for one wet my hair, add shampoo, wash my face, brush my teeth, rinse face and hair, add conditioner, wash body + feet, rinse hair...all done!

shanemotb said...

Wash hair and rinse, wash face with washcloth #1, wash "lady parts" with washcloth #2, wash whole body with puff and peppermint soap, rinse and done.... If I am shaving, I have to do it at the end sitting on the side of the tub because I am so blind I have to have my glasses on.

So there you go... ;-)

OK, this has absolutely cracked me UP!

I am totally fascinated by the number of people who still use bar soap instead of body wash AND who shave their legs after they wash them. I like to shave before so that I can enjoy the smooth legs when I bathe them!

And Meredith splits up shaving leg 1 and 2! Never, ever thought of doing that.

Most of you wash your feet last, like Nathaniel. He will be thrilled.

And Shanemotb ... peppermint body wash! I'll put it on my list!

Beth, lady parts get washed twice ... WIN!

Thanks so much to all for the most entertaining post comments in a long while. :)

paige said...

I suppose being simple folk, I just start at the top with hair and work my way down from there. It takes me 20 minutes, too. :)

Robin said...

I pretty much go from the top down, but skipping lady parts/hiney for last. If I am shaving my legs, I do that very last and wash my lady parts/hiney again after that! HAHA!

AJ said...

OK just have to add mine, LoL.
On a shaving day (which is 3-4 times a week):
Wash face - Shampoo and rinse - Conditioner no rinse - Shave armpits then legs - Wash body starting from neck working down but doing lady bits last - rinse conditioner - and rerinse entire body

Hilarious post! Here's my routine:
(first..water must be HOT HOT HOT, and I usually hang out under the water for 5 minutes before I start)

1. Wash hair--dont rinse.
2. Lather washcloth with Dove bar soap and start working my way down--starting with left arm.
3. Rinse off shampoo and soap.
4. Condition hair-use comb to detangle curls. Wash face with facial cleasner. Shave pitties.
5. Final all-over rinse

I have super fine hair on my legs, and only need to shave every 2 weeks or so. Pitties get shaved every 2 days or so...

Last time I was at the doctor for a UTI, I was told women are supposed to use bar soap (which I don't think I've used since they invented body wash?) Apparently it is a lot better for the female body. Haven't done any research on it, and haven't switched myself, but that's what I was told!

Katherine @ Grass Stains said...

Aaaaaaaaand Laura gets the award for TMI! Way to go, Laura! Love it. :)

Green Door Girl said...

Cracking up - I wash down - so I start with hair/shampoo, then wash the body top to bottom (feet last) and then I usually shave 1 leg, rinse out shampoo and put in conditioner, shave other leg - rinse out conditioner, shave under arms. I also use a female wash vs. bar soap in those female areas, but I use bar soap for my body. :) Also, I read the hamburger post - WAHHH - yours is upside down :)

Katherine @ Grass Stains said...

Green, I STILL contend that my burger is right side up! And you guys who take a break between shaving your legs crack me up.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my

There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.

She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off
