A big 'first' for Nathaniel

As it turns out, not only was this a big week for Nathaniel because he started First Grade, but also because HE LOST HIS FIRST TOOTH!

This is something he's been waiting on for over a year, ever since All of His Friends, Every Single One of Them started losing their teeth. His didn't move a micronometer. He pushed and pulled and pushed and pulled, to no avail. But this week, THIS WEEK, he finally lost one.

He was at school, and it was a little loose, and while he was eating lunch, it just fell out! OH, THE JOY. I can't tell you what a glorious event this was!

So that night he was getting totally prepped for his first visit from the Tooth Fairy. (He doesn't believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but he's all about the Tooth Fairy.)

When he and Nick were born, a lifelong friend's father, a dentist, sent each of them a little Tooth Fairy container. It's a tiny sterling silver thing-a-ma-jig with a little golden fairy on top. Nathaniel was thrilled to be able to get it out and put his tooth in it.

He put it on the bookshelf beside his bed, asking "When will she come? How long til she gets here? How will she know it's in there? Will she wake me up? Can she see without the lights on to find my tooth?" and approximately 31 other questions.

He finally calmed down enough to go to sleep, and LO AND BEHOLD, the next morning at O Dark o'clock, he came careening into our room and shouted, "MOMMY! THE TOOTH FAIRY CAME, AND I GOT A WHOLE DOLLAH! DO YOU KNOW HOW I CAN TELL IT'S MONEY FROM THE TOOTH FAIRY AND NOT JUST REGULAR MONEY? IT'S SO SHINY!"

We are just bursting with pride around here. And all we can hope is that he doesn't start ripping the rest of his teeth out with pliers or something.
