I'd ordered three cakes from our cake lady, Vickie ... a chocolate smash cake for Amelia, a big cake for our guests, and a small cake for my dad, because we were also celebrating his 70th.
As usual, Vickie did a stellar job on the cakes!
Amelia's little smash cake was so cute ...
We'd been wanting to try Vickie's chocolate cake, which we'd heard great things about, so I decided that this little cake would be the perfect test cake for the chocolate flavor. We were NOT disappointed.
And Vickie really outdid herself with the big cake!
Good gracious! It practically looked like a wedding cake!
The detailing was beautiful, and it was appropriately celebratory looking for Amelia's big day.
My friend Jamie had also -- at the last minute, no less -- made two dozen cake pops for me, and they were FABULOUS, as always.
We gave them out to the guests as party favors ... but of course we kept a few for ourselves, too.
Amelia didn't really know what to make of the hoopla, or of the cake. This was her first real taste of a "sweet," other than a bite here or there of ice cream over the Summer. She was like, "Wha??"
We sang "Happy Birthday" to her, and we let the boys blow the candle out before we set the cake in front of her.
Although Amelia wasn't sure at first what was going on, once that cake was on her tray, it only took her a second to dig in.
Pretty soon, she was in it to win it with both hands.
She wasn't shy about grabbing the pink roses with her chubby little fists, in particular.
My favorite part of the evening was watching her crinkly-nosed grin come out in sheer delight!
I have a feeling I look kind of like this when I eat Vickie's cake, too ...
Suffice it to say, she had a wonderful day, and she enjoyed every moment of her party.
And now we know for sure: She's an "icing" girl.
