The Color Run

I just registered myself and the big boys for Birmingham's Color Run, a 5K that will take place on Labor Day. I'm so excited about it!

After our last 5K (their first), they said they never wanted to do another one. But I think they'll make an exception for this. (All photos courtesy of the Birmingham Color Run site.)

You start the run (which occurs in many cities, not just here) in a plain white T-shirt. At each kilometer marker, observers throw handfuls of non-toxic, 100 percent natural color dust at the runners. (They say you can eat it, but they don't recommend it.)

This might be the first thing other than snorkeling I've ever done that will require goggles.

I can't imagine letting this stuff get lodged in my contacts.

But honestly. Doesn't this just look like a really fantastic way to run a race?

I really hope the boys enjoy it, and I hope there's a place safe enough for Grayson, Amelia and Jake to enjoy it, too -- on the sidelines.

I have no idea how I'll get good pictures of it, but I'm sure going to try! Can't wait.

It sounds like the Holi festival in India where people throw coloured powder on eachother!

That will be so fun! You can always get great pictures at the end! Grant ran his first 5K this weekend at the Bronx Zoo. He loved it and wants to do that race again next year.

That looks like fun (minus the running part....I hate running)! I'm sure the boys will love it, and all that color makes for great pictures!

I had a girlfriend tell me about this recently. Looks fun! Have you ever looked into the Warrior Dash? Don't think your boys could do that one, but might be fun for you!

Oh my gosh I am SO excited you're doing this! I was in Disneyland two weeks ago right after the race in LA and so many people there were just COVERED in color! It was so cool! I wish I hadn't missed the one in San Diego. Definitely doing it next year! Can't wait to see pictures

This looks awesome! I keep making resolutions to run a 5k, this may do it for me. I'm already looking into the one in Louisville.

Thank you for sharing this. I totally want to do one now. It sounds way better than a mud run!

I really want to do this. But I need to become a runner again first.
