It was just like Friday Night Lights

IT'S GOING TO TAKE EVERYTHING IN ME NOT TO WRITE THIS ENTIRE POST IN CAPS. But for your sakes, I'm going to try my very best. I imagine they'll break through occasionally, though.

If you've been keeping up, you know that Nathaniel's baseball team won the first game of its tournament on Monday night, and we had the follow-up game last night.

I still hope you'll read to the end of the post, but I'm going to go ahead and tell you that the Braves lost the game, so our season is officially over. But you know how I love Friday Night Lights and I think it's the best show in all of television and I think it's a crying shame that not enough people watch it so I can talk about it with them? WELL, INTERNET. Last night's game is about as close to a Friday Night Lights episode as I'm likely to come in real life.

We were behind for the entire game, at times by as much as six runs. Nathaniel struck out his first four times at bat, and then all of a sudden it was the top of the 6th -- and last -- inning, we were behind 15 to 10, we had two outs, and Nathaniel was up to bat. He was our last hope; there were only two minutes left on the clock.

In the 7-year-old league, they get five pitches, but only three strikes. So you can watch two pitches go by, but you have to swing on the other three. Nathaniel watched one go by. He swung at another and missed. He watched another go by.

He had two pitches left, and he had to swing at both of them or the game was over. The ball shot out of the machine at 35 miles per hour, and he connected!

HE HIT A DOUBLE! HE HIT A DOUBLE! HE! HIT! A! DOUBLE!

Internet, I had an out-of-body experience right then. I can't tell you what I did. I DO remember my hands being in the air, and I was screaming something, and I also jumped up and down a lot. But I didn't get any pictures (of either of us) as it was happening. As a matter of fact, I was so busy doing God knows what, I failed to initially NOTICE that it was a double ... I was just trying to figure out if he made it to first!

And THEN I realized that he had brought two runners in! TWO RBIs! TWO RBIs! TWO! R! B! I!s!

And then the next batter was out at first and the game was over.

But here's what I'm saying, Internet: I DIDN'T CARE THAT WE LOST. Not one bit. I was euphoric. The most important thing was that every kid on our team got a hit last night. They were all great sports. No parents complained about a couple of questionable calls. It was SUCH an incredible night of ball, and coming from someone who doesn't give a rip about ball, that's a huge compliment.

And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, Coach Jason presented Nathaniel with the Game Ball, his first and only of the season.

I STILL can't get over it. Our very own Friday Night Lights. It just doesn't get better than this.

Yay Nathaniel! What a champ. Great job buddy! And Katherine, I'm super impressed that you know what an RBI is. Your nephew would be super proud. Hooray for a great season!

I wish I could have been right there with you, jumping and screaming like a total maniac.

I wish you both could have been there. OH, WHAT A NIGHT. So much fun.

And P, while I was busy prancing around in pride after the game, one of the dads came up to me and said, "What a way to end the season, huh? Nathaniel really came through in the clutch. Two RBIs ... man." And then I Wikipediaed the crap out of it at midnight last night so I wouldn't screw it up. But don't tell Matt. Let's just let him think IT WAS ALL ME.

That is fantastic! Way to go Nathaniel!!!!

Braves rock! Love me some Jason Milligan, btw! You had such a sweet team! Allison and I are friends (Reeves and Hutson were preschool buddies) and the Lovoy's are awesome, too!

Now you know why I am a psycho. I am sorry that your first (in person) encounters with me have been at the ballpark. I promise I am not a freak in the off season!

Let's try to get together soon!
