Raining where you are? Try this.

I ran across a really cute idea on a kids' arts and crafts blog this week, and I wanted to share it with you: CRAYON MUFFINS.

If you're like me, you probably have about 223 crayon shards (why do I keep typing "crayone?") in your crayon box. We can't seem to keep our crayons (crayones) in good condition for more than three minutes after they come out of the box.

Well, some brilliant soul came up with an idea to use all of those bits and pieces.
  1. Peel crayons.
  2. Add muffin liners to a muffin pan or spray each section with cooking spray.
  3. Have your kids help sort and organize colors.
  4. If you would like a multi-colored crayon, put all the crayon pieces together. Otherwise, put crayon pieces of each color in separate muffin cups.
  5. Bake at 200 degrees until melted. (Watch them closely and don't sue me if you catch your oven on fire.)
  6. Allow to cool.
You start out with this*:

And end up with these!

Now, I don't know if you'd be any better off AFTER you completed this project than you were before you started it, because, well, what do you DO with a crayon muffin? I'm not sure that you can use one to color in a coloring book ... that takes the term "wide tip" to a whole new level.

But I think we might do it anyway. Just to see.

* Not to be a total hag, but I think she needs a new muffin/crayone tin.

We made these in my silicone heart mini-muffin 'tins' for Valentine's Day a couple of years back. They come out with smooth sides, which was nice, but doesn't solve the 'wide tip' issue (jumbo paper, perhaps?).
Also - if you use a silicone pan, you WILL need turn it inside out and use Dawn Power Dissolver to get the wax off. TRUST ME.

Wow! You are a brave mama. I so wouldn't try this in my house. A mini muffin tin would be cool. Do reds and pinks and give then as valentine gifts...just a thought.

Mini-muffins are a GREAT idea! I like that even better. If we try it, that's what I'll do.
