I've gotten a really nice response from this post about the plates I hung on the wall in the kitchen. Several people have asked how I found them and if they were expensive.
They were easy to find, AND they were relatively inexpensive. I searched eBay for "red transferware" and found one store that had hundreds to choose from. I ultimately decided to use three colors (brown, green and red) and then bid on designs that I liked in those colors. In many cases I made an "offer" that was less than the price listed, and in all cases they accepted my offer. I didn't pay more than $7.50 for any plate.
In addition, buying from one store made shipping MUCH more reasonable than if I'd purchased from separate stores and paid multiple shipping prices.
I've looked at similar plates in department stores, and the prices I got were much better -- even factoring in shipping and handling. Granted, if we'd been operating on a single income at the time, I wouldn't have bought them at all, but -- woo hoo! -- I was still operating in the blissful land of The Double Income at the time. I think for the space on the wall that the plates beautify, inch for inch, it was a very cost-effective project!

For those who asked questions from the previous post: The hangers can be purchased at craft stores such as Michael's and Hobby Lobby. In my HL, they were in the framing section with the other metal plate hangers. The plates are from eBay, and the seller's shop name is "Curiosity 2002." The direct link if you're logged into eBay is http://stores.ebay.com/CURIOSITY2002. They've been selling since 2001, and I rate them very highly. They are located in Germany, but the shipping was extremely reasonable, and the plates arrived more than a week faster than they'd told me they would. Hope that helps!
