Slices of Life, Vol. 7

My favorite Nicholas words right now: "dump kuck" for "dump truck," "wattahmelluh" for "watermelon"

My favorite Nathaniel words right now: "I want to watch 'Toy Store'." (Toy Story)

Me: "Nathaniel, there's a lot of chocolate cake on the floor."

Nathaniel: "Nick-Nick did it."

Me: "Nick-Nick didn't have any cake."

Nathaniel: "Oh. Then I did it."

I had to sign [yet another] incident report when I picked the boys up at school. Nathaniel had fallen off the slide and scraped his elbow and hand. While driving home:

Me: "So what happened outside today?"

Nathaniel: "I climbed up the slide using no hands and I fell down."

Me: "Oh, so you were breaking the rules?"

Nathaniel: "No. I was using the Extra Rules."

Nathaniel's teacher told me that he had a bad dream yesterday during naptime. He woke up screaming at the end of naptime, and she couldn't console him.

Ms. Jessica: "What's wrong? Calm down, honey."

Nathaniel: "I need my mommy to make me feel better!"

Ms. Jessica: "Can you tell me why you're so upset?"

Nathaniel: "I need my mommy to make me feel better!"

Ms. Jessica: "Did you have a bad dream?"

Nathaniel: "Yes! I need my mommy to make me feel better!"

Ms. Jessica: "What was your bad dream about?"

Nathaniel: [blubbering] "I-I-I dropped my cracker on the fl-fl-floor at snacktime. It was H-h-horrible!"

Riding home from school every day, the boys eat graham or saltine crackers that they grab on the way out of school. Yesterday, as he was getting out of the car in the garage, Nathaniel hopped out of his carseat and shook the graham cracker crumbs off of his T-shirt onto the floor of the backseat.

Me: [incredulously] "What are you doing?"

Nathaniel: "Oh, don't worry, Mommy. It's just cracker seeds."

Nicholas was trying to pick up a slippery slice of pear from his dinner plate. After several unsuccessful attempts he looked up at me and yelled, "HEAVY!!!"
