1. Our air conditioning unit that cools the basement and main level (living area) bit the dust. Like, no stop-gap measures, just bit the dust. Goodbye, $6,500.
  2. I’ve used up every bit of my paid prescription migraine medications, probably because of the changing seasons and lack of air conditioning in the house. Now each migraine is costing me $39 per pill, because all 20 pills I had two weeks ago are gone.
  3. I had a flat tire, filled it up with air, and it went flat again. When I called Grayson to tell him Amelia and I were on the way to the hospital, he was having it patched … it had a nail in it.
  4. Amelia was admitted to the ICU with RSV.
  5. Amelia came home, only to be diagnosed a day later with double ear infections. She’s on her second round of antibiotics for that.
  6. The day we all went back to work and school, we went down to the garage to find water pouring onto Grayson’s car from the subfloor of the kitchen above. We ran back upstairs to find that the toilet was leaking and probably had been leaking all night long.
  7. Right before bed one evening, Nicholas ran into the powder room saying he felt like he was going to throw up. And then he did. I spent the following two hours wondering if it would happen again. It did not.
  8. Two nights later, Nicholas got out of bed around 10 p.m. saying he was going to throw up. We spent 45 minutes in the bathroom, but he never threw up. I spent the following two hours wondering if he was going to. He did not.
  9. Last Saturday night I got out of bed at 3 a.m. knowing I was going to throw up. And then I did, for two hours.
  10. Last Sunday night while I was watching the ACM Awards, our TV (the big, nice one in the den) went black. It had sound, but no picture. Just a fizzle noise, and it was gone. It's still out ... we're waiting on a part and then we have the privilege of paying $350 to fix it.
  11. Yesterday morning we woke up to a cable TV outage, so even on our TVs that still WORK, we can't watch anything.
  12. Last night Nick started throwing up at 10 p.m. and didn't stop until 8 a.m.
  13. This morning Amelia woke up with a diarrhea diaper that had soaked through her PJs and sleep sack all the way through to her sheets. And she has a rash across her forehead.

I would never ask, “What’s next?” I’m not stupid, and I know these certainly aren’t the worst things that can happen to anyone. But GRACIOUS. I need a Butterfinger. King-size.

SERENITY NOW. (And also, Happy Easter.)
