Baby shower #2

You know what feels really excessive? Having three baby showers for one's fourth child. I mean, I am FLOORED that people keep offering ... floored and honored.

I had a wonderful time at the shower thrown by my Bunko friends a couple of months ago, last Thursday night a group of friends showered me at Cheesecake Factory, and this Friday some friends at work have planned a luncheon/shower. I actually turned DOWN an offer for a fourth shower, which my cousins and aunts had offered to host for other family and close friends, but I just couldn't bring myself to say yes when they offered.

Is that a Southern thing, the multiple showers for multiple kids thing? Because I've read Dear Abby for most of my life, and there seem to be a lot of people out there who resent being asked to attend showers for moms of multiple kids. I am always more than happy to celebrate a new life, whether it's someone's first or sixth, so I don't really get it. But at the same time, it made me really hesitant about accepting so many offers of showers for Amelia.

AT ANY RATE, since I'm sure you have a couple of other things to do today besides read my blog, on to details about last Thursday night!

My friend Melanie has a set of close girlfriends who have become friends of mine by extension. We get together several times a year for parties or events such as Melanie's tap recital, and we always have a great time, so I was thrilled to get to see them and hug their necks last week.

I received three ADORABLE outfits for Amelia ...

Two gift cards to Target ...

And a really girly activity mat! The one we've had for nine years is blue, green and orange, and the new one is decidedly more appropriate for Amelia.

(Please allow me to apologize for the photo quality today, by the way. Cheesecake Factory is big on mood lighting, which is TERRIBLE for pictures.) (And do you know what is ALSO terrible for pictures? Going to your baby shower straight from work in a black shirt without having applied makeup or glanced at your hair in the last 10 hours.)

Here are Holly, Laurel and Shelly -- Laurel is one of my most loyal blog readers and will be tickled pink today to be able to say "Nanny-nanny, boo-boo!" to her friend Michelle, who is also a loyal blog reader but whom I have never met in real life and is not pictured. (But HI, MICHELLE!)

And here I am with Melanie on the other side of the booth.

Dear friends, all of them, who I am so lucky to know and who I know Amelia will come to know and love, too.

This is VERY random...but I'm loving that you have close friends that are named HOLLY and LAUREL. Makes me think of Christmas. :)

I think it's great. Sometimes by the time a fourth rolls around all those new things from the first baby aren't new any more...or even usable. Things wear out , may be the wrong season/sizes, or the wrong gender. I love that people are having multiple showers. Each baby is special and you're having a girl...you need lots of cute girl clothes.

I think it's totally awesome. Us Northerners (southern Indiana, just across the river from Louisville, KY) don't always a big shower for the second, or third, or fourth :) But I have went to smaller showers, just like you had with close friends, especially if it's the opposite sex of your first child. You need clothes!

btw- I do not consider myself a Northerner! I am southern sweet tea drinking gal!

LOL - I am so with you on the showers, I love going no matter the number, but I had two with baby boy and it has felt kind odd like people are thinking "who does she think she is she having a shower for her 3rd baby" - lol

I just love all the girlie stuff!
