28 weeks

I mentioned the other day that I gained three pounds while on vacation ... well, that brought me back to within one pound of my pre-pregnancy weight. (I lost 10 and a half over the first four months, so I'm about to break even.)

Now typically I wouldn't have wasted much time talking about weight gain, because ... BLEH. But let me tell you, when I was at the OB for my "28-week" visit yesterday (at 30 weeks, but who's counting?), he praised my weight situation.

Do you know why? He said that the new guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy allow for seven to 14 pounds.

I'm sorry, WHAT?

When I started having kids eight years ago, it was 20 to 25 pounds. It's like now they're saying you're only supposed to gain the weight of the baby itself plus maybe the amniotic fluid.

[Blink. Blink.]

OH.

What!?! Oh my! My oldest is only 11 and when I was pregnant with him, we were told to gain 30-40 pounds!!! And I did! Oh you poor pregnant women! As if there isn't enough to be stressed about when having a baby now you have to "diet" too?

But boy do you look great! And such fabulous shoes!

You look great! Now that someone else admitted to gaining lots of weight, I'll admit to the 40, but I quit looking after that. My sister swore that she would never gain 40 lbs when SHE GOT pregnant. (this was shortly after I had my second daughter). I let her know that your body has a mind of its own when you are pregnant. Yep, she gained 40+, too. She is 5 inches shorter than I! When I had my hysterectomy at the age of 32, I was put on hormones. Worst thing that I could have done. I weigh lots more than I thought was possible. UGH!

I gained 11 lbs when I was pregnant with Anderson, and he was 8lbs. 2 oz. I have no idea how I did it, other than having a serious craving for strawberries and blackberries.

I have a friend that gained 90lbs when she was pregnant with her first because she really thought she was eating for 2!

I got nothin' on the weight thing. One doctor told me last time that I should try not to gain any weight with the twins. Another told me to aim for 50 pounds.

You look stunning, by the way. It's kind of not fair. ;-)

7 to 14 pounds?!!??! Geez these doctors are out to get whacked in the head by a pregnant lady or two.

You look super adorable!

WOW! I was told the 30-40 lb guideline as well but when I was pregnant I always stood backward on the scales cause I didn't want to know the number. I just asked them to tell me if I was okay or not. Also, I think I can see where they're coming from with the new guidelines. With so many of us women being 'overweight' less gain will mean less problems like diabetes and pre exclampsea, etc. At least that's my theory.
And you look LOVELY!!!!! I saw a shirt today on a pregnant lady that said 'touch the belly, loose a hand'. I smiled.

I gained 40 pounds with both of my children. I guess that's a fail? You're doing great, and look adorable :)

How can that even be!? I looked it up b/c there is no way that will happen but based on everything I found- just the basics that happens to your body is more than what your Dr. is saying.
I going to a midwife who is more concerned about eating the right foods (foods to grow a baby, not your behind!) but if I had a MAN dr. who was telling me what I SHOULD weigh....he'd be getting the stink eye from me!

waaaaaa - they told me 25ish lbs, which I thought was "light" considering the 1st was 30 and 2nd was 50 lbs... I thought I was doing good around 25 right now :) Guess those extra cookies at night aren't helping - LOL
by the way you look great, so forget what the doctor says - LOL
