This is the problem with the Internet: oversharing

I never intended to post this here. This is more than a little embarrassing. HOWEVER.

Nicholas got a skateboard for his birthday earlier this month, and he and Nathaniel were reluctant to try it out for a week or so. But my sister and I used to skateboard when we were little, and I kept telling them how much fun it was ... I remember FLYING down the hill in front of our house in Raleigh and even faster down our steep driveway there.

By the time we moved back to Marietta when I was starting high school, I'd grown out of skateboarding and haven't done it since. Until last weekend.

Against my better judgment -- and despite the fact that I hadn't set foot on a skateboard in 25 years (and HOW OLD DO I FEEL because I can now refer to things as having happened 25 years ago WHEN I WAS 12? -- I said, "Hey. I bet I can still do it. Want me to try?"

And if you think they didn't jump up and down and scream YES YES YES!, then you don't know my boys at ALL.

Of course, no one had a video camera that time and Grayson didn't even get to see it, so I had to do it again a few days later to prove that it had happened at all. It's not graceful. I had terrible form. I look EXACTLY like you'd think a 37-year-old minivan-driving mom would look skateboarding down her driveway. But the point is, I DID IT, and I did not bust my butt doing it.

GO ME.  ;)

It's hard to tell how long and steep our driveway is, given my STELLAR COMMAND OF THE TERRAIN and the fact that Grayson zoomed in really far. You can get a better sense of it when Nathaniel comes part of the way down:

P.S. If you know me in real life, please do NOT come up to me tomorrow and say, "Hey, I saw you skateboarding on the Internet." Thanks so much.

Wow! This 36-year-old mini-van driving mom will try a lot of things, but I don't think skateboarding is on my list. (Can I tell Patrice I saw you?!?)

Kat, it was great to meet you at the Lisa Leonard party! Thanks for introducing yourself. It has taken me forever to get by your blog to say hello, but I so appreciate you taking the time to say hi. And you lived in Marietta too, you've got to be a great gal! xoxo

And kudos for the skateboard video, that took some guts. Not sure I'd try that now, but I have done some daring things in the last 10 years. And I'm much older than you. Zip line, that's all I'll say. Well, it wasn't too high off the ground, but still.

In my head I was going to look cooler doing it. The flailing arms take away that je ne sais quois ...

What an awesome mom! I love your commentary too. I don't think I'd be brave enough to try skateboarding.
