Yesterday

So yesterday might have been a good day to actually obey the urge I have every day to ignore the alarm clock and stay in bed.

I awoke with the usual amount of trouble (40 minutes of "snoozing" between alarms), hoping that Nicholas would have a good day at school. (He's been in school for six days and has already had two bright orange "behavior violations" and one handwritten note sent home from school. I cannot tell you how much this stresses me out.)

Nicholas awoke with slightly MORE trouble than he typically does, causing him to miss the bus -- so Nathaniel rode it to school without him. I then had to dress quickly and basically forget about doing anything to my hair in order to drive him to school and get through the carpool line before the tardy bell rang.

As Nick and my nappy-headed self headed down to the garage, I noticed that the interior light was on in Grayson's car. I called out to him, and he said, "Wait a minute. Don't leave until I make sure my car starts." Well. It didn't. So I loaded Grayson and Jake up into the minivan with me and Nicholas, and we all took off in an even BIGGER hurry than I'd been before, my hair leading the way.

We dropped Nick off with five minutes to spare, and then we headed down the mountain to take Grayson to work. After dropping him off, I headed south one suburb to drop Jake off at daycare, then back north to my office downtown. (All the while, I'm thinking, "I'm going to be almost an hour late, and then I'm going to have to leave 30 minutes early to drive this route backwards after work!")

As I pulled down the street toward my parking lot at the office, one of our security guards flagged me down and asked me what floor I work on. "What's up?" I asked. He answered, "Well, the power's out and the elevators are down."

Well that's a relief; I ONLY WORK ON THE 13TH FLOOR.

I decided to hang out for a few minutes on the first floor, hoping against hope that the power would come back on before I had to hike up 13 flights in my high-heeled sandals -- although I totally planned to take them off and hike barefoot if it came down to it. But all of a sudden God smiled on me, and power was restored. I jumped on that elevator so quickly my halo of hair and I were but a blur. I made it up to my floor safely.

The rest of the day was uneventful except for the fact that I came across the article about Kyser, which totally sent me into a bad funk. I sort of shut down emotionally for the remainder of the day, and I found myself just staring off into space several times, unwittingly drawn back into that vortex of grief.

Last night we had a sitter so we could go to the 2nd grade orientation at the elementary school, and on our way out of school, my friend whose family is supposed to visit this weekend from Atlanta called to say that they're sick and can't come. Not a big thing, but I was bummed nonetheless.

When we finally got home around 8:30, we pushed Grayson's car out of the garage and jumped it using my minivan's battery. So far, so good on that front.

I guess I'm generally pretty blessed and pretty happy, so days like yesterday are few and far between. I'm thankful for that, but BOY did yesterday wear. me. out. Here's hoping for an uneventful, pleasant weekend ... and I wish the same for all of you!

I so hate days like that. It's as if once one thing goes wrong the whole day is off.
Praying for all of you as you go through the rough times ahead.

Dang, hate when a day starts out stressful. Maybe there was a full moon or such. Hope today is a much better day. While I was reading about the dead battery, I kept thinking about my own van. My 2009 Town and Country has a safety measure for lights being left on or one of the doors left open. It shuts off the battery feed to those, so that the battery won't expire! I love my van with all its bells and whistles, but sometimes I can't find where the bell is coming from.

Wishing you a great weekend!
P.S. I just read that story and I don't blame you for being in a fun after reading it. What a horrible group of people!
