Coloring outside the lines

Over the weekend Jakey sat at the kitchen table, drawing while I made lunch. He's reached a point where crayons are "for babies."

He much prefers a good ink pen and a notepad to crayons and a coloring book these days.

As I was putting sandwiches together, I noticed he'd "missed" and gotten his arm instead of his paper.

Me: "Jakey, what happened to your arm?"

Jakey: "Hmmm?"

Me: "Looks like you missed the paper there and maybe colored your arm. Did you?"

Jakey: "Hmmm. Nope."

"OH. Dat?"

"Heh heh."

"I did dis!"

"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!"

"I cullah moh now."

Ohhh, so precious... although I'm not sure you would use "precious" to describe the situation!

My daughter spent several days this past school year coloring the palms of her hands. She's a preschooler, so I understand that it's fun and silly - but it's a little embarrassing to take a green-palmed little girl to dance class....

Drawing on my own arms is something I don't remember doing as a kid. (However, as an adult, I end up with some kind of pen mark on my hand almost every day, it seems.) But he seemed to be plenty pleased with himself, and it wiped off so easily that I just had to laugh.
