And you wonder why all my lampshades are always crooked

My friend Honor brought her three kids down from Chattanooga for the weekend, since her husband Doug was out of town, and Grayson was on a kayaking trip in Tennessee.

We had a great time with all of us packed in our house ... we would have spent more time outside, but we were severely limited by all of the thunder, lightning and rain that rocked our city this weekend. We kept trying to make it to the pool but never did.

But Sunday we got in some "tram-pleen" jumping (I love the way Jack says "tram-pleen").

And we enjoyed the new playhouse.

Later, after a yummy supper of hotdogs and milkshakes, we stopped at Wal-Mart so Honor could pick up a few things she needed. All of her kids piled in my van to watch a movie while Honor shopped. I AM A GIVER.

They watched Alvin & the Chipmunks and laughed their heads off.

I felt like I hosted a 32-minute fraternity party.

Apparently Hannah felt the same way.

When we got back to the house, an epic swordfight took place in the den ... home to all of my perpetually crooked artwork and lampshades.

On guard!

It's a good thing I buy most of my accessories at Target or on clearance.

Because nothing in my house stands a chance against the kind of violence that occurs here on a daily basis.

SMACK. DOWN.

I wish I could tell you that I remember a moment of silence in our house during waking hours this weekend, but I cannot.

You can only imagine the decibel level in this room at that time.

But I CAN say that the brand-new episode of Friday Night Lights that I watched after everyone went to bed that night in the darkness of this room on the very couch where this had taken place hours earlier was salve to my soul.

The most important event of the weekend, of course, was the non-stop laughter, which was every bit as much a part of the weekend as the hand-to-hand combat.

We are blessed to have such wonderful friends, and as Honor said as they were walking out the door this morning, "It's great to know we can be stuck inside together for three days and not kill each other!"

And a special note today to those who serve our country and the spouses who support them: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

Have a blessed and safe Memorial Day.

Have you ever seen the 3M Command strips? LOVE THEM! Everything in my house (just about) is held STILL-NO SHIFTING OR CROOKEDNESS --by the picture hanging ones. They stick on the back of the picture (or whatever) and then to the wall. They work kinda like velcro. And they come off clean if you want to move the pix. Check out their website for coupons.

Might help with the picture issue but not the lampshade issue

I'm going to have to put those on my Wal-Mart list! The picture in my foyer drives me the most nuts, because the slamming of the front door ALWAYS knocks it half an inch off!
