Raising boys

In case you didn't know, I'm raising boys. Just boys. No girls. Distinctly boys.

ALL of their jeans look like that. We keep throwing them away when the holes get so big they're obscene.

There are other telltale signs that a bunch of boys live here. A bin that just holds weapons.

Overflow weapon storage in the corner.

All Things Star Wars. Including the ridiculously overpriced backpacks and lunchboxes from Pottery Barn (lovingly purchased by my parents).

And on weeknights like last night, when Grayson and Nathaniel are at Cub Scouts and it's just me and The Littles at home, I'm reminded that even when there are only two around, boys are still ALL BOY.

Last night they were so sweet, cuddling on the couch. (I know it's blurry, but I love it anyway.)

But inevitably someone starts crowding someone else.

He might continue to bother the other someone -- who might allow it for a moment.

But then he will get up and run away ...

Run over to Mommy and register a complaint about the aggressor.

So I took the complaint, but it was mighty hard to be mad at Mr. Dimples and his bright blue gum.

And it was hard for Jakey to hold a grudge, too.

So he just went back to his favorite pasttime of trying to grab the camera lens while I'm taking a picture of him.

And when I said, "No," he resorted to his SECOND-favorite pasttime ... crying to express his great displeasure.

Luckily it was mere moments before Nicholas reminded him that there was More! Boy! Stuff! to do while we waited on Grayson and Nathaniel to get home. Flying through mid-air is always a good choice, for example.

Jake needed no further prompting.

He is a pro in his own right.

Oh, and before I forget to mention it, the new favorite movie in this mostly male household is one that we recorded on ABC Family the other night. See it?

That's right. Ralph Macchio is in. the. house.

AS IF WE NEEDED TO GIVE THEM ANY MORE IDEAS.

That picture of Jakey grinning cracks me up.

Oh my, I think Jake and Gabe share the same love of crying to express displeasure. Gabe has also recently started to enter the "throw yourself on the ground and hit it as hard as you can" phase... I hope for your sake Jake can avoid that one! :)

Rachel, I know. Some of the iconic phrases from the movie are already being bandied about the house.

SET, Me, too.

Laura, thanks for coming by even though I know you must be extremely tired and busy! We have certainly had our days of kicking and screaming. ;)
