Sometimes they are surprisingly easy to please

Several years ago I bought Nathaniel and Nicholas terrycloth bathrobes at Costco to wear at the beach. I thought it would be easier for them to slip a robe on as we left the beach to walk back up to the house instead of trying to dry off with a towel and then carry it back to the house, dragging it through the sand.

The robes really caught on, and they loved them. Unfortunately, once they grew out of them, I wasn't able to find terrycloth robes that fit them ... the robes I ran into were always fleece or some other nonabsorbent material and I guess were meant to be used more as housecoats than towels.

This winter, though, I found terrycloth robes in the most recent Lillian Vernon catalog. They had them in sizes up to 7, so I was able to get one for each of the boys.

Here is Jake modeling his ...

He was thrilled with the robe, but majorly PO'd that I wouldn't let him go down to the backyard to play in the 20-degree weather.

Nathaniel's is white and has sports balls embroidered on it. Nick's is blue and has sharks and porpoises on it. Jake's is green and has monkeys on it.

When I gave them to them, they put them on and wore them all day.

Nathaniel and Nick even put them on over their PJs that night and wore them to bed. When I went into their room to check on them, they'd kicked their covers off because they were hot, but I couldn't convince them to take the robes off.

I thought they'd like them, but I never expected them to be so POPULAR. If only it were this easy to please them ALL the time ...

that is a great idea for the beach. I am totally going to do that for my 3, thanks!

The bathrobes for the beach work GREAT! They free the kids' hands up to carry their beach toys, body boards, etc., and they also wear them inside at lunch, where the robes soak up the moisture and don't let the chairs get wet. We have really enjoyed them for that purpose!

My husband's aunt made the cutest robes for my kids last year and she used towels to make them. They are super cute and I wish I could get a pattern for them cause they are outgrowing them. The boys look great. I never thought to use ours for the beach. Great idea.
